The influence of the length of the residual limb on the thigh prosthesis

Everyone knows that long thigh stumps have good load-bearing performance, and amputated patients want to keep the length of the thigh stumps as much as possible. So how long is the stump to fit a thigh prosthesis?

According to the investigation of the researchers, the bottom of the receiving cavity is mostly installed at the upper part 2.5 to 5 cm from the knee joint axis. Since the knee joint axis is generally 2.5 cm from the knee joint gap, the distal end of the soft tissue part of the residual limb will be 5 to 7.5 cm above the lower part of the femur, so this is the minimum required length of the residual thigh. The optimal length of the lower leg stump is 12 to 15 cm, which is the uniform and optimal length for the surgeon in developed countries to assemble the lower leg prosthesis.
